A directory to end all directories!

Well probably not quite, but the new-look Health Library and Information Service Directory (HLISD, “Health Lizard” to many) includes more features and is more comprehensive than ever. With over 650 entries, it is the definitive list of health information services in the UK and Republic of Ireland, a vital tool for staff working in those services, and a key means for users and potential users of these services to make contact.

HLISD is jointly funded by Health Education England and the CILIP Health Libraries Group. I’m the new Service Manager (taking over from Julie Ryder who looked after the directory for many years including its transition from print to online format). We have a Board who oversees the development of HLISD, and a network of regional co-ordinators. Individual services are responsible for maintaining the accuracy and currency of their entries, and each has an editor.

Is the entry for your service accurate and up to date? If you are unsure who your editor is, email me at hlisd.hlg@cilip.org.uk. If you are an editor but can’t remember how to log in, use the ‘forgot your password’ link at https://www.hlisd.org/admin/.

Do you have suggestions for improvement?

The HLISD Board welcomes suggestions for further improvement (and ideas for integration with other systems to reduce duplication of effort). Your feedback will help us ensure that HLISD continues to meet your needs. Please make contact via hlisd.hlg@cilip.org.uk.

Resource Discovery Tools for Health Libraries

Richard Osborn, London Strategic Lead for Library Services and e-Learning, outlined the resource discovery strand of work for delivering the Knowledge for Healthcare Framework (KfH) at the recent event ‘Resource Discovery Tools for Health Libraries’ on 11st September 2015.

This national event was organised by the Midlands Health Libraries E-Procurement Group in conjunction with HEE Library and Knowledge Services Leads and NICE.  Approximately 80 healthcare librarians from NHS and other sectors attended.  Several libraries shared their experience in implementing resource discovery services and suppliers showcased their latest products. There was also a lively panel discussion.

This event forms part of KfH work in exploring the existing landscape of resource discovery tools.  Further information is available at
